I am doing some rewiring on Lurch and I want to put a fuse in for the power circuit for the head lights and horn. I am not using the original switch on the dash, but I noticed that this switch DOES have a fuse for these circuits.

So, I'll put a fuse holder inline with the power line going to the lights and horn.

I know that the fuse should be 20 amps (as per a post from canadiantim - 6v Fuse discussion pertaining to car horns

What I'm confused about is that the fuses that I've looked at (including internet searches) nowadays talk about fuse ratings for 12 volt circuits.

Since 6v circuits need heavier wires (because they carry more current), how do I apply that logic (??) to the choice of a fuse for my 6v circuit?

To put another way, what is the difference (or is there a difference) in the rating of a particular fuse for 6v versus 12v?

Thanks, Dean

I use a 30 AMP fuse in my lighting circuit. It won't blow just on a whim, it needs a solid short. Your car fuse needs to only worry about amperage.

If a device needs "Y" amps to function and you have an "X" fuse it will blow without regard to the voltage. If you put a "Z" fuse it may damage the device before blowing the fuse. Don't pay attention to the voltage ratings when picking a fuse. Amps is the driving factor.
